Implications of Net Zero transition presented at Luxembourg Strategy Conference

Luxembourg Strategy, the strategic foresight directorate of Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy, held its 3rd public annual conference on 26 and 27 September 2023.

The ECO2050 strategic vision: Prospective aid for economic diversification event is part of a continuous foresight engagement to address the possible futures of Luxembourg’s economy in critical and creative ways.

The 2023 edition of the conference builds upon the success of previous editions in 2021 (themed “Anticipating Possible Futures”) and 2022 (themed “The Real Economy: Between Social Foundations and Biophysical Limits”). This year’s focus is on the strategic vision for Luxembourg’s economy in 2050, which was developed by the Luxembourg Strategy team between May 2022 and June 2023.

The Luxembourg Strategy invited a range of international experts to speak and discuss the current state of the 10 building blocks of the long-term economic vision and encouraged strategic discussion on how to apply these blocks at national, regional, European, and international levels, taking into account the unique context of Luxembourg.

Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy’s Dr David Leal-Ayala was invited to share his views on the first building block: “Open strategic autonomy: Manufacturing industry & supply chain”, where he introduced CIIP’s recent collaboration with the World Economic Forum, the “No-Excuse Framework to Accelerate the Path to Net-Zero Manufacturing and Value Chains“, and the implications of the Net Zero transition for industrial diversification opportunities in Luxembourg.

“It was a valuable chance for us to present our report and contribute to the development of Luxembourg’s vision for 2050,” said David. “Additionally, we shared our perspective on how achieving Net Zero can lead to positive impacts on their economy in the years to come.”
