Published on January 3rd 2023
Celebrating its 10th Anniversary, The Global Leaders Forum is an international forum bringing together leading figures from policy, business and academia to seek solutions for key challenges facing Korea. Opened by the Prime Minster, Han Duck-soo, Nobel prize winning economist William Nordhaus delivered the keynote address before two days of sessions focusing on current global economic challenges, industrial strategy and the needs for innovation policy.
With a strong belief in Korea that technologies are becoming more and more critical to not only industrial and socioeconomic aspects but also security and sovereignty; IfM founder and Head of the Babbage Forum, Professor Gregory was invited to speak at the session entitled: ‘Securing capabilities for strategic, critical and emerging technologies – Linking Higher Education and Innovation Policy.’
Considering current issues in industrial innovation policy and the future role of Higher education in innovation ecosystems, Professor Gregory was joined by speakers from the Tokyo, Korea and Seoul National Universities as well as the Science and Innovation attaché from the Danish Embassy.
Professor Gregory said: “At a time of extraordinary economic and geopolitical upheaval, Korea like many countries around the world, is looking to technological and industrial innovation to achieve growth and insulate their nation against an unpredictable future. The Global Leaders Forum was an excellent opportunity to explore shared challenges with colleagues from around the world and I look forward to developing those conversations.”
Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy (CIIP) brings together the Centre for Science, Technology & Innovation Policy at the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), the Policy Links Unit from IfM Engage, and the Babbage Policy Forum.
