Carlos López-Gómez gave evidence to the House of Commons International Trade Committee inquiry on 6 May on the impact of COVID-19 on trade in manufactured goods.
He emphasised the strategic role that manufacturing has played during this crisis, whether repurposing production lines to make protective equipment or increasing capacity to ensure food supplies. He also discussed how manufacturing can emerge stronger through the use of technology and innovation, and how industry in the UK can learn from international best practices.
He emphasised that sector-by-sector evidence is needed to better map UK supply chain capabilities, address risks and inform policies.
