Marco Kamiya

UNIDO Representative (UR) in Jakarta, for Indonesia, Timor Leste, Malaysia and the Philippines, and focal point for ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)

Marco Kamiya, PhD, is the UNIDO Representative based in Jakarta for Indonesia, the Philippines, and Timor Leste.  UNIDO is the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

He was Chief of the Digital Transformation and AI Strategies Division at UNIDO in Vienna, Chief of the Urban Economy and Finance Branch at UN-HABITAT in Kenya, a senior executive at CAF Development Bank for Latin America in Caracas, and the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C. He also worked for a development consulting firm in Tokyo.

He has extensive experience in Asia, Africa, Arab States, and Latin America, leading projects on technologies, infrastructure, environment, innovation, and urban economy. He is a senior member of the United Nations Economist Network (UNEN) in New York and a fellow of Cambridge University’s Industrial Innovation Policy (CIIP) Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) in the UK.

He has written academic papers and articles on industrial policies, growth, and AI. In addition to Policy Briefs on Industrial Policy and Urban Economy for the United Nations Economist Network, he co-edited the Springer annual series on the “Global Urban Competitiveness Report” (UN-Habitat, The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences CASS) and “Finance for City Leaders” (UN-Habitat/University College London).

Marco Kamiya studied International Development at Harvard University.
