Mateus Labrunie has a PhD at the Centre of Development Studies, University of Cambridge, where he worked under the supervision of Dr Ha-Joon Chang on the challenges of industrial policy and technological catching-up in the age of digitalisation, with a focus on Brazil.
Before that, he got his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Master’s in Economics of Industry and Technology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – his home town. A strong believer in industrial policy and structural change as drivers of economic development, Mateus joined the Policy Links Unit with the goal of contributing to spreading knowledge and best-practices to governments and other interested parties.
Outside of work, Mateus likes to play volleyball at competitive level, and to go surfing and hiking.
